Top Product award for ThermaWrap Multi-Layer Insulation presented

Following an end of year review of the replies generated to the products featured in Professional Builder during 2005, ThermaWrap multi-layer aluminium bubble foil was nominated Product of the Year.

Designed to meet the needs of the builder, maintenance team, self builder and DIY enthusiast for quick, easy installation this 4mm thick membrane from YBS Insulation offers the same degree of insulation as 55mm of polystyrene and is totally flexible even round corners.

Installation is simple and straightforward - ThermaWarp is simply rolled out and cut to length with a utility knife or scissors and then fixed in place with a staple gun.  Available in handy rolls which will fit inside a family saloon or small van the material is easy to transport and manhandle into the loft area.

SuperQuilt gains LABC services Certification and National Approval!

YBS Insulation has been awarded the very first system approval certification for multi-layer foil insulation issued under the new Local Authority Building Control Services National Type Approval Scheme for its SuperQuilt insulation membrane.

This lightweight, 25mm thick multi-layered material provides the same thermal insulation as 270mm of mineral wool yet is both clean and easy to handle.

Designed to meet the needs of the builder, maintenance team and those responsible for meeting the increasingly stringent insulation standards required by Parts L & J of the Building Regulations, SuperQuilt achieves a better thermal efficiency than its nearest competitor yet weighs just 12kg for a 1.5m x 10m roll. SuperQuilt is both CFC and HCFC free, achieves a Class 1 surface spread of flame fire rating and a thermal resistance of  6.100m2K/W.

SuperQuilt is simply rolled out and cut to length with a utility knife or scissors and then stapled to the undersides of the exposed rafters or even between the rafters. It is at its most efficient when ventilation gap of at least 25mm is left either side of the Quilt (this is simply achieved by the use of battens). The joints, which should be overlapped by 75mm, are sealed with acrylic based self adhesive aluminium foil tape which provides a vapour barrier and increases the thermal value of the complete installation.

The absence of itchy fibres eliminates any need for protective clothing, respirators or goggles whilst the extraordinary flexibility of the material ensures that awkward corners can be easily tackled.

4mm thick insulation membrane for metal & twin skinned walls saves space / improves U-values

Known as Foil-Clad FR, this high performance membrane achieves the same thermal efficiency as 35mm of glass fibre yet actually costs less per square metre. It creates a wind tight, draught-free, weather sealed yet vapour permeable enclosure providing a complete rain-screen which will meet the demands of Building Regulations Parts L2 & J.

Especially suitable for agricultural buildings, industrial and warehouse installations; protection starts from the moment Foil-Clad FR is fitted (with self adhesive stick pins through standard glass fibre / mineral wool insulation) as it protects the quilt from rain during construction. Water entering across the cavity runs away over horizontal laps in the same way as roofing layers.

At the same time, the unique bubble pattern on the reverse of the bonded aluminium foil permits any water vapour entering the wall to escape. YBS Foil-Clad FR is fire retardant with the foil face conforming to Class 1 Fire Rating and also offers a U-value below 0.35W/m²K.

Multi-layer, foil laminate provides outstanding thermal protection for uncured concrete

Known as Cur-Reflect, this coated multi-layer foil material provides strong, secure protection against extreme temperatures which could cause cracks or frost spalling on uncured concrete or cement .

Thanks to its high thermal resistance, Cur-Reflect offers protection over a wide range of temperatures from -40?c to +60?c. Its reinforced polyethylene base provides a tough tear, waterproof and corrosion resistant insulation system.

With an overall thickness of just 1mm, Cur-Reflect is also lightweight, flexible and both easy to store and handle.  Given reasonable care it can be used and
re-used as work progresses.

Installation is simple and straightforward. Cur-Reflect is easy to cut and fit to suit site conditions and is laid foil face upward with edges being overlapped by 75mm.  In windy conditions these edges should be secured to ensure maximum protection.

The material used in Cur-Reflect has been tested by The National Physical Laboratory for its thermal capabilities and hold BRE Certifications for use in a number of building applications.  It is available in 50 metre rolls of both 1 and 1.5 metre widths.

Super savings on underfloor heating

Underfloor heating generally achieves around 20% lower running costs than a standard radiator system now, independent tests have shown that an aluminium foil laminate can produce even better results.

According to recent tests conducted by BSRIA a wattage output of 0.85w/m2 is achieved when YBS SuperFloor Foil-Tec (single) Insulating membrane is used. This provides a heat output which is 20% more efficient than the nearest available alternative system .

Just 1mm thick the SuperFloor Foil-Tec insulating membrane not only saves valuable space,
it is more efficient than 50mm of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene Foam), 25mm of foil faced
PUR (Polyurethane Foam) or even the 0.7w/m2 output achieved with a standard spreader
plate system.

The SuperFloor system is lightweight, quick and easy to use and costs up to 75% less than alternative systems to install and is virtually maintenance free.  Alternative systems for use
with solid floors and suspended timber floor installations are also available.

Further information together with the full BSRIA test report is freely available from the Technical Department, YBS Insulation, The Crags Industrial Park, Morven Street, Creswell, Derbyshire S80 4AJ Tel: 01909 721662  Fax: 01909 721442 or www.ybsinsulation.com

Standard Assessment Procedure documentation service now available from market leading multi layer insulation technology company.

In a move to provide those responsible for the provision of SAP Rating Certification to the purchasers of new residential housing units with the required documentation to comply with Building Regulations Parts L & J,YBS Insulation is offering a comprehensive service for designers, builders and contractors.

On receipt of detailed plans for the proposed building, members of the technical team at the company are able to undertake the 120  calculations necessary to attain a pass or offer advice to achieve compliance .

These calculations are then used to prepare specifications for the installation of suitable materials to achieve the required levels of insulation at a standard fee of £75.00. Those using the service who use YBS Insulation products in their project will be offered the calculations and certification FREE of charge.

Details of the SAP Service are available from the Technical Department, YBS Insulation, The Crags Industrial Estate, Morven Street, Creswell, Derbyshire S80 4AJ Tel: 01909 721662 Fax: 01909 721442 or www.ybsinsulation.com

Timber Frame-Pack launched

An eight page technical leaflet has been published describing the range of easy-to-install insulation materials specially developed for the timber frame industry by YBS Insulation.

Claimed to offer a ‘complete solution’ the leaflet provides details of the products available to meet or exceed the thermal resistances required by Building Regulations Parts L1,  L2 & J. when applied to pre-fabricated or site assembled timber frame buildings for use in:-

Walls, where the Breather-Foil FR timber frame insulation system creates a fire-retardant, wind-tight, draught-free, weather sealed yet vapour permeable enclosure (when used with a suitable external cladding) without incurring the expense of thicker frames or higher priced materials.

Roofs, where Therma-Flect Roof Boards replace the roofing felt which insulates and waterpoofs at the same time, or acts as a vapour barrier and insulation in Scottish / refurbishment applications. They are available supplied to site pre-cut to fit between trusses.

Floors, where the multi-layer laminate, Foil-Tec Double,  provides an easily fitted, high performance, insulation system for use with suspended timber floors which easily achieves the required U-values.

CAD drawings providing installation details of all these products may be accessed and downloaded from www.ybsinsulation.com

Copies of the new TimberFrame-Pack are freely available from the Technical Department, YBS
